The Karen Emergency Relief Fund Inc. exists for the sole purpose of helping a group of people in need --

the Karen people of Burma.

In 1999 and 2006 the United Nations mounted great efforts to stop the killing in Kosovo and East Timor (newly named as Timor-Leste). But nothing was done to end the killing, robbing and raping of the Karen people of Burma -- or to stop the oppression conducted by the illegal military dictatorship of that country. The Karen Emergency Relief Fund, Inc. works to ease the sorrow and pain of the Karen people – especially women and children who are suffering the horrors of ethnic cleansing.

The K.R.R.F. Board of Directors decided in 2002 that our primary mission would be providing for orphans and other Karen children in need, and the K.E.R.F. Children’s Center was established in Mae Sot, Thailand.  The Center is under the direction of a gifted German physician, Dr. Sabine Roper,  who serves as a volunteer.  Currently there are 22 children living at the Center.  Fourteen attend school.  At the Center they learn important vocational skills, including the maintenance of a herd of goats.

Dr. Roper also helps the very poor people of her neighborhood – who are mostly Karen migrant workers.

With the declining value of the US dollar, it now costs K.E.R.F. about $1,800 per month to operate the Center and provide for these children.

K.E.R.F also assists approximately 160 additional Karen orphans who live in refugee camps.

We invite you to join us in caring for them. In this small world, they are our children.
